Blogs, Blogs, Blogs
Today is the first day of the first ADVANCED Summer Institute. I presented information about blogs and using blogs in education. We surfed random blogs, discussed blogs and the use of blogs in the classroom, and currently everyone is setting up a blog or posting to their existing blogs.
I am asking everyone to respond to my blog. Since my fellow participants are asked to critique my presentation; it was suggested that the critique be in comment form at my blog. So, please feel free to post your comments about the presentation in this format (or on paper if you prefer). The questions that I have are---What type of handout would you like to see? This is an abbreviated handout, but I had a bulkier one t hat I wasn't happy with either. What would you like more of and/or less of?
Thanks for your feedback

Lavon,
I'm excited to try this in my classroom. This may be a great way to have students help me write our classroom newletter, and homework updates.
The hand out looks good to me. Your directions were easy to follow and you also provided some sites of interest that we may want to try. I think it is an appropriate length to get me started without being overwhelming.
Thanks, Julie

Dear Lavon,
As far as the handout, I liked it, but I would also include some content standards. You know how those admins like that. No one will problably ever look at it, but they still like to see it. Also on the handout, I think it might be helpful to list various ways to utilize blogs in the classroom. That way if someone was unable to attend and just had the handout, they may get the main scoop from your presentation from a handout. Also, put your name and info on the handout so people can contact you for more info. It is your presentation--take ownership. :-)
Your facts at the beginning and onl the handout were helpful. If I ever needed to justify myself to admins or to parents and students these facts could help to serve why I want a blog in the class.
It was certainly hands on and really allowed us to experiment and see what we could do. Maybe for this you could have more samples from classrooms to show the audience what possibilities are out there for them to incorporate into what they already do.
I like that the conclusion allowed us to create and respond to each other. This was really helpful and a fun to see what others did and what they thought.
Your presentation and presence in the room was remarkable. You are very 'at-ease' and knowledgeable of your subject. I liked that there were things that you were able to say, " I don't know." It is such an expanding field that there will always be things you don't know.
The PowerPoint was effective. I noticed a couple of errors in capitalization, but overall it was easy to read and follow along.
Thanks and GREAT Job!

Hi Lavon:
Thanks so much for the information. I feel so tech savvy now! I created my own Blog for Kindergarten teachers that I am working with as a PLC next week and throughout the year. I set it up as a place to discuss and share best practice in kindergarten literacy instruction.
I have a few suggestions. If you are going to do this workshop again, you might try to get a wireless mouse so that you aren't stuck to the computer. You might also want to set up the "Norms" for the group ahead of time like, stay with me...don't go ahead on the pages, when you hear the chimes, turn around and have all eyes on me...etc. A quick cue that you want all eyes off the computer and up front.
The PowerPoint was great. I could follow along and the pace was well suited for our group. Sometimes I like having the PPT as a handout to write notes on. Some people might like that, or have it on your CWP web page for anyone to access later if they want to refer back to a slide or share the workshop with other teachers.
Thanks again! I can't believe that I have a Blog; Now, what to say???
Liz
